Why reading aloud?

Even accomplished readers find it is pleasurable to be read to and it is no different to the young child. Young children are empowered by quality literature, as supports rapport between the person who they are sharing the book with. Babies enjoy lilting sound of the human voice and the patterns of language. Soon they will start responding with vocal interactions and non-verbal gestures, so sharing books may become an important ritual (before rest, going to sleep or while relaxing together on a weekend).

* Reading aloud provides opportunities to enjoy text and at many different levels. * Books have rich, interesting words, rhymes, pictures which makes them fun to explore together. * Books for young children have NARRATIVES or STORIES, which is one of the most common aspects of any culture. * Reading aloud with child in your language helps to support bilingual children and not to lose their mother tongue.
