Meet Kate

Early Childhood teacher armed with ukulele and ability to teach complex concepts in a simple way

“Learning and teaching should not stand on opposite banks and just watch the river flow by; instead, they should embark together on a journey down the water. Through an active, reciprocal exchange, teaching can strengthen learning and how to learn.” – Loris Malagizzi.

Gday! Hello! Hi there!

👧My name is Kate and I am an early childhood trainer; university teacher and qualified early childhood teacher.

👧 My name is Kate. I am an early childhood trainer, tertiary educator, and qualified early childhood teacher. I am very passionate about early years learning.

I live in Australia and enjoy nature walks 🐞🦋🌱 and ocean swims 🌊🪸🦑.
I love playing the piano and baritone ukulele, singing with children and pre-service teachers, and writing poetry and silly songs. I also enjoy making puppets and other teaching resources.

I am a book lover and read widely about early childhood education and care.

I am passionate about the early years (0–8). I have a background in Early Childhood (Bachelor’s and Master of Education), as well as VET and tertiary education (both face-to-face and online teaching).

I have worked in the early childhood profession for over 17 years in a range of roles, including nanny, playgroup coordinator, storyteller at a local library, educator, kindergarten teacher, and educational leader.

🎓 I hold a Certificate III, Diploma, Bachelor’s, and Master’s in Early Childhood Education, as well as a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.

💕 I work as a relief ECT across preschools and long day care centres to stay current.

🎹 I enjoy playing music, singing, and creating songs with children and pre-service teachers.

📚 I am passionate about reading and sharing resources in early childhood education.

⬇️ How can I help you? ⬇️

As an early childhood teacher and teacher educator, I share my passion for early learning through stories, puppet shows, action songs, circle games, children’s songs, and reflections on teaching and learning. You will find a range of free resources, ideas, tips, and digital products to support your pedagogy.

With a strong focus on storytelling, puppetry, music, and play, I demonstrate ways to create engaging programs for children, with particular attention to circle time (group time, meeting time, or yarning circle).

I am committed to supporting early childhood pre-service educators (Certificate III, Diploma, and Bachelor programs), as well as working professionals. I envision STORYKATE as a space to share ideas, examples of good practice, reflections, and creativity.
